Former sports announcer with CFRA and CBO in Ottawa, Jim Shearon was 10 years old when he saw Jackie Robinson play for the Montreal Royals. He saw his first major league game at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn in 1949.

In writing this book, Jim Shearon visited and interviewed players and their families. He researched records and photos at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York and newspaper files at the National Library of Canada and the Boston Public Library.
